Provide opportunities for Newcomers to Canada

Community Connections matches newcomers with volunteers who are familiar with Canadian culture, values, workplaces, and everyday life. Volunteers help newcomers adapt to living and working in Canada, guide internationally trained professionals as they enter their field in Canada, practice English, participate in the community and much more.

At the same time, volunteers learn about international cultures, develop new contacts and networks, and strengthen community life.

We are looking for volunteers who are:

  • rooted in Canadian society and knowledgeable about its culture and values
  • open to learning about other cultures and helping newcomers learn about Canada
  • knowledgeable about Canadian workplace culture, and able to support professionals in their transition to our economy
  • able to commit about 24 hours of time over a 8 to 16 week period

 Community Connections volunteer activities:

  • sharing socio-cultural activities with individuals and families who are new to Canada such as participating in Canadian cultural orientation events, cultural café, Taste of French Canada and much more
  • mentoring internationally trained professionals to assist them in establishing careers in their field: one-on-one, groups or online
  • group activities focusing on settlement issues, language acquisition, and professional networking (self-employed, engineers, IT, health care, finance and accounting professionals)
  • participating in English conversation circles where newcomers can practice their language skills
