Support for Adults with Mental
Health Challenges


If you are struggling to cope with mental health issues, you are not alone. According to Health Canada, one in five Ontarians will experience a mental illness in their lifetime.WoodGreen's Mental Health Services can help.We provide support to adults living with a range of mental health challenges who face significant barriers including poverty, inadequate housing and social isolation. We offer case management services, social and recreational groups, supportive counselling and stable housing to help our clients live independently and improve the quality of their daily life.

How We Can Help You?

Our services are aimed at helping clients feel less isolated and more empowered to make better decisions for themselves. We can help you:

  • Get involved in more group activities ?social and recreational
  • Achieve important personal goals
  • Have better access to other services that you need
  • Reduce the amount of formal crisis services you use
  • Improve your overall mental health
  • Get access to more stable housing

What Can You Expect?

Our clients are individuals who have mental health and/or developmental challenges and are living primarily in East Toronto. Self-referrals are strongly recommended. However, we also accept referrals from families or other services providers. Where appropriate, we will set up an interview to determine the services you are most interested in. We will also fill you in on the monthly schedule of group activities available to you. The majority of our services are FREE, although there is a small fee for some of the recreational activities.

Case Management Services

WoodGreen's Case Management Services offer intensive one-on-one support to individuals experiencing serious mental health issues. We provide the following:

  • Assessment of the services suitable for you
  • Individual counselling
  • Self-directed goal setting
  • Problem solving
  • Advocacy support

  • Crisis prevention and intervention
  • Case coordination and education

Social and Recreational Groups

WoodGreen's Friendship Club, which meets regularly throughout the month, provides individuals who have mental health and/or developmental issues with an opportunity to socialize with others, learn and develop new skills, and have fun in a safe and comfortable environment. Specifically we offer:

  • A women's group
  • Lunch and supper clubs
  • Life skills classes
  • Arts and crafts
  • Drop-ins
  • Special activities such as bingo, theme parties and group outings

Supportive Counselling

For Friendship Club members who are dealing with difficult issues or emotions, WoodGreen's mental health staff are available to provide one-on-one assistance. Support may include counseling to help clients resolve personal issues, or practical assistance like advocacy and referrals to other community services that clients may require.

Housing Program

For adults ages 55 and over who have serious mental illness and are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, WoodGreen offers a nine-bed housing cluster which provides assisted living and a more supportive housing environment. Tenants live in private bachelor-style apartments with access to a common dining and living area so they can interact regularly with other tenants. Assistance is provided to each tenant, according to their specific needs, in the following areas:

  • Grooming (i.e. bathing)
  • Laundry
  • House cleaning
  • Managing finances
  • Taking medication
  • Nutrition and dietary restrictions
  • Social activities
  • Help with personal problems (i.e. counseling)

For individuals withdevelopmental challenges

WoodGreen also offers a range of services to individuals who are living with a developmental disability. Supporting our clients to integrate into the community, we provide case management services, assistance with daily living, counselling, social and recreational activities, and advocacy on their behalf.
