For youth

If you are 15 to 24 and need help finding work, you are not alone. Every year,WoodGreen's Youth Job Centre supports thousands of youth in their search for full-time, part-time or summer employment. We offer a range of services, including one-on-one counselling, job development, workshops and access to computers and fax machines needed to conduct an effective job search.Whether you need help deciding on a career or finding a job, we will work with you every step of the way.

How can we help you?

If you are 16 to 24 and need help with your job search, WoodGreen Youth Job Centre offers:

  • Advice and workshops on resume writing and preparing for job interviews
  • Referrals to potential employers for qualified candidates
  • Information on how to find the right job
  • Access to computers, fax, internet and information to help speed up your job search
  • Help dealing with issues that are preventing you from finding a job

WoodGreen Youth Job Connect program

Whether you need assistance returning to school, finding training opportunities or connecting with potential employers, WoodGreen's Job Connect Program for youth (16-24) can help.

Drop-in Information Resource Area
Our Information Resource Area provides FREE access to up-to-date technology and information that can help you with your job search. Drop in during regular business hours and take advantage of the many resources we offer, including:

  • Computers with internet access, word processing capabilities and resume building software
  • Access to laser printers, local fax and telephone services and photocopies
  • Information on other community resources, job fairs and job postings
  • Weekly workshops on resume writing, interview skills and more
  • Monthly SmartServe workshops which provide the certification needed to responsibly serve alcoholic beverages at a bar or restaurant

Employment counselling and job development services
WoodGreen offers one-on-one counselling and job development support to youth looking for work.

Employment counsellors will help you:

  • Develop action plans so you can begin taking steps towards getting the job you want
  • Deal with issues getting in the way of finding a job, such as a lack of work supplies or equipment, or difficulty getting to job interviews

Job developers will help you:

  • Connect with potential employers and uncover the hidden job market
  • Access employment to develop skills which support your career goals
  • Prepare for job interviews through mock interviews and workshops
  • By continuing to provide support once you're hired

Apprenticeship service
If you want to work in the skilled trades,WoodGreen can help you learn more about the benefits of becoming an apprentice.We connect youth with employers that offer hands-on training in a variety of trades ?such as automotive technician, early childhood educator, electrician, plumber, hairstylist and cook. Imagine, you can do about 90% of your training in the workplace while you are getting paid!

Summer Jobs Service for students

If you are currently in school and looking for a part-time or summer job, WoodGreen's Summer Jobs Service for youth (15-24) can help.Whether you are best suited to working in a warehouse, restaurant, daycamp, movie theatre or landscaping job, we will support you in your summer job search.

Every year,WoodGreen's Adult Employment Services supports thousands of individuals who are unemployed or underemployed with their job search activities. We offer a range of friendly, personalized services, including one-on-one coaching, practical workshops and access to the technology needed to conduct an effective job search ?all for FREE. How can we help you?

We can support you in your job search if you are legally entitled to work in Canada, possess the skills required for work in your chosen field, and can communicate in English. Some of the ways that we can help include:

  • Advising you on resume and cover letter writing
  • Supporting you as you prepare for job interviews
  • Providing information on how to find the right job
  • Access to technology and information to help speed up your job search
  • Networking opportunities with other job seekers
  • Workshops to enhance your job search skills
  • Specific series of workshops designed for new immigrants looking for work

What can you expect?

Our clients are individuals who are unemployed, or who are in jobs that are not utilizing their full set of skills or offering them enough hours, including new immigrants to Canada. You are welcome to drop into our Employment Resource Centre without an appointment. However, if you are interested in participating in our one-on-one job coaching program or our employment workshops, please call us to set up an appointment with an employment consultant.

If you are a landed immigrant or a convention refugee, and you have been in Canada less than three years, WoodGreen's Job Search Workshop Program for new immigrants can help you learn about the job market and support you in your job search.We offer a series of FREE day and evening workshops designed specifically for newcomers which can teach you everything from locating job leads, to creating effective resumes and developing your job interview skills.

Every year, WoodGreen's Youth Job Centre connects more than 500 employers with thousands of youth, 16 to 24, to achieve effective employment solutions. Through our FREE Job Connect and Summer Jobs Service programs, employers can access a pool of job applicants to fill their specific employment needs.Whether you have part-time or full-time positions available, WoodGreen's experienced job developers will work with you to find the right person for your organization!

How does the program work?

As an employer in the Youth Job Centre's Job Connect program, you have access to our friendly, professional staff who work with you throughout the job hiring process. Together, we outline your employment needs and specific selection criteria. On your behalf, we pre-screen all potential job applicants and then recommend suitable candidates to you. Our job developers are also available to help facilitate job fairs, interviews and offers of employment. We continue to support you once your new employee is hired.

How will your business benefit?

WoodGreen's Job Connect program is designed to support employers in their candidate selection and hiring activities. Employers who participate in the Job Connect program benefit in a number of ways, including:

  • Working with a WoodGreen job developer who is qualified to help you find the right candidate(s) for the job
  • Free job postings, applicant interviews and job fairs
  • Having access to a pool of job-ready applicants
  • Reducing the risk associated with hiring by participating in job trials or volunteer placements
  • Pre-screening of all candidates based upon your selection criteria
  • Continued support from WoodGreen once the applicant is hired
  • Financial training incentives for certain employment arrangements

Can any employer be part of the program?

Currently, we work with hundreds of companies throughout Toronto across a range of industries. Through the program, employers have hired youth to fill a wide variety of positions including auto mechanic, security guard, child and youth worker, warehouse shipper/receiver, landscaper, office assistant, hair stylist, machinist and many others.

To become a Job Connect employer, businesses must meet the following criteria:

  • Be licensed to operate in Ontario
  • Have third party liability insurance
  • Have workers compensation coverage or equivalent

Ask about our financial training incentive

WoodGreen Youth Job Centre offers a financial training incentive to employers who offer on-the-job-training. To be eligible, employers must provide a minimum of 25 hours of employment per week. To find out whether you qualify for our training incentive, please call and ask to speak to a job developer.

Apprenticeship service

Do you have employment opportunities in the skilled trades? At the WoodGreen Youth Job Centre we have youth that are interested in registering as an apprentice in trades such as automotive technician, early childhood educator, electrician, plumber, hairstylist and cook. Employers hiring apprentices will receive a financial training incentive. To hire an apprentice and to get more information about our support program, please call and ask to speak with a job developer.
