Every year, WoodGreen assists over 5,000
immigrants and their families settle into their
new lives in Canada, while helping them to develop
a sense of belonging. We offer a range of FREE
services aimed at supporting newcomers to live
independently within the community, including
newcomer orientation, one-on-one counseling,
English language programs, settlement and
employment workshops, employment and English language programs for internationally-trained professionals, certified Microsoft computer training, youth programs, self-help networks,
a newcomer volunteer program, and social and
recreational activities.

How can you contact us?
WoodGreen's Immigrant Services helps immigrants at different
stages of their settlement. We understand the challenges of adjusting to a new language, a new culture and new
surroundings. That's why we work closely with you and your
family to help you settle into your new life, whether that
means helping you learn about the city, acquire English skills, begin your job search, secure your first professional job,
find affordable housing, locate the right school for your
children, access important community resources or develop
a network of friends.

Newcomer orientation
WoodGreen provides new immigrants with a practical orientation
to life in Canada. Our counsellors will help you understand
your rights and responsibilities as a new Canadian and learn
about the city and, Canadian systems, fill out important forms, launch a job search
and find affordable housing.
One-on-one counseling
Many newcomers find the stress of settling in a new country
too much to cope with alone. WoodGreen offers one-one-one
counseling, providing information, guidance and emotional
support to newcomers who need it.
English language programs
WoodGreen offers a number of programs to help newcomers
strengthen their language skills, including LINC (Language
Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) and ELT (Enhanced Language Training ) that range from LINC level 1 to level 10 , and conducted in day, evening and Saturday. The program focuses on daily English skills, pronunciation, grammar, workplace communication as well as specific language required for the engineering, IT, health-care and finance/accounting fields.
Most of these classes have a child minding program available. We
also run a weekly group where you can practice your English
conversation called Talk English Program.
Information workshops
Offering practical information workshops for newcomers,
WoodGreen covers a broad range of topics from what you
need to know about parenting in Canada, to how to file a tax
form, determine what benefits you are entitled to, or target a
specific profession in your job search.
Self-help networks
WoodGreen's self-help networks are designed to facilitate
discussions around settlement and employment challenges
and opportunities, giving newcomers the chance to connect
and provide mutual support to each other. These networks include the Engineer Club, Administrator Club, Chinese Workers Support Network, and Parenting Network.
Social & recreational activities
Providing regular social and
recreational opportunities,
WoodGreen encourages
newcomers to share food and
cultural traditions together,
learn about the Canadian
way of life, and improve
their conversation skills.
Newcomer volunteer program
Newcomers can gain valuable Canadian workplace experience
by becoming part of the Newcomer Volunteer Program.
Volunteers can get involved in providing clerical support,
setting up programs, promoting workshops and more.
Other services for newcomers
WoodGreen also offers a number of other services that many
newcomers benefit from including specialized programs for youth,
seniors, and adults, a certified Microsoft Computer Training Program (minimum fee applies), housing and high-quality

Employment and Language Programs for Internationally-Trained Professionals is an employment-focused bridging program for internationally-trained professionals who have at least intermediate(Level 5) English and whose career orientation and international training are in one of these four sectors:
- Accounting/Financial Services
- IT
- Engineering
- Health Care

What Employment and Language Programs for Internationally-Trained Professionals offers:
- An individual program for each participant. Together with the Case Counsellor and other staff members at WoodGreen, the participant will develop a goal-oriented action plan, whose purpose it is to help the participant achieve a successful job search outcome: employment in the participants’s field
- Customized sector specific language supports and workplace oriented communication skills, especially written and oral skills
- Customized assistance from one-on-one coaches for both job search (customized resume and interview preparation) and language enhancement purposes
- Support through WoodGreen staff Participants are supported by the Job Developer who connect participants with employers for jobs and voluntary placements
- Access to supportive, focused, and hands-on workshops and recruitment sessions
- Access to Mentors in their profession to help them with various aspects of their job search and settlement process
- Ongoing support from their employment bridging team once they have accepted a job offer and started at their place of employment
- A 16-week time period to focus on their individual job search. A schedule will be worked out on an individual basis to cover multiple activities so that participants can continue other activities such as a survival job and other obligations and responsibilities. This is a highly customized, individual program, particularly for instruction in English communication skills.
- Participants agree to join those workshops or interventions that will allow them to develop a successful bridging mechanism. This may include language enhancement, training, coaching/mentoring, research, practice sessions, and/or any other strategy that will result in a positive and productive job search outcome
- Participants will work with the Case Counsellor to review their situation on a regular basis and define areas where additional supports are needed
- Participants, once employed, will stay in touch with the Case Counsellor and Job Developer to troubleshoot work situations and to report successes. This is intended to be a supportive strategy to help participants navigate any problems or issues they may encounter in terms of workplace situations and workplace culture
